Part XII: 1988- End of Innocence

Jamie stared at the two pinks, and thougg a smile formed on her face...dread filled her.

On one hand...now she had the proof and an excuse to hang around Kirk.

But this had to be a false positive. It had to be. She was on the pill. And she'd always made Noah use protection too..

"I'm so happy!" She cried out, with as much enthusiasm as she could muster.

"Oh," Alice-Marie smiled, "Well, that's a relief. I'm used to sobs. Happy sobs, sometimes, yes, but... Well, congratulations. I suppose you're going to want to get set up with an OBGYN. We have some brochures, if you're looking for a doctor. I know it can be intimidating, especially for a young girl, and..." she paused, "Well, and you're free to dismiss one out of hand, but...you know, working in social services, you have to ask... Is the father in the picture?"

-Alice-Marie

"Funny thing about that," Jamie put out a nervous smile, "The father didn't believe me. And my dad told me, that if he didn't take responsibility, he was going to kill him."

It was funny, how easy it was to imagine her dad doing that. Especially if it was Noah.

"Oh," Alice-Marie blinked, surprised, "Well, if you'll pardon me, he sounds a bit extreme," she folded her arms, "How do you feel about him? I mean...would you be alright having him in your life?"

-Alice-Marie

"My dad, or the father?"

"Well, the father, of course. Do you...do you think you might be able to raise the baby together?"

-Alice-Marie

Jamie sighed, "Probably not. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to marry him, but I don't want him to be a deadbeat either, you know?"

"Oh," Alice-Marie frowned, "I'm sorry. But, you know, if there's anything you need. We offer all sorts of services. Counseling, checkups...we even have some midwives around the place, if you want a home birth," she crossed to the door, "And, you know, if you do end up worrying about...well, mothering..." she wrinkled her nose up, "The orphanage is right upstairs."

She paused, "That wasn't funny, I'm sorry. It just felt like it might alleviate the mood."

-Alice-Marie

Sal, having been very much passed out in her bed, but also very accustomed to that annoying bird of a boy being her alarm clock, dragged herself out of bed and to the window, the light from the sky burning her to her very core. As she opened the window she called down

"It's not fair, I can't throw you across the room."

"You think this is obnoxious," Leo grinned, "I was about to throw a rock!" he cocked his head to the side, "You want to let me in, or should I get ready to catch you?"

-Leo

Jamie looked at her for a few seconds, before she burst out laughing.

"Oh, well..." Alice-Marie shrugged, "I guess it is funny. Let me just grab some of those brochures for you..."

-Alice-Marie

Jamie finally calmed down...

But the sense of dread refused to go away...

When she got home...she'd have to retake this test.

Sal yawned loudly as she considered the two options that he had offered.

"You know how to climb." She smirked as she went back into her room and began to look through her closet, grabbing a pair of jeans to slip on. She had been only wearing a dead boys shirt, and some boxers, and he isn't getting a show.

After that she grabbed her bowl from the inside of one of her shoes and the lighter from her nightstand.

"You know, me climbing into your window would reinforce a lot of hurtful stereotypes about my people," Leo called out, "Do you hate me that much?"

But he rolled his eyes, starting up the waterspout, and using it to get purchase on the eave below the window.

"It's nice..." he panted, "I regret this already."

-Leo

"What's that?" Sal called out as she took a long hit from the bowl.

"I can't hear intruders."

"Shut up," Sal stuck his head through the window, "You're smoking a bowl at 9:00 AM?"

-Sal

"Wake and Bake Leo, Wake and Bake."

Sal said, pointing the the back of her own neck. Showing him a small font tattoo that said, the only good brainis a dead one

"Eh, give it 10 years when you're barely 30 and can't remember what day of the week it is," he swung his legs through the window, "Did Jim ever get back last night? Also, did you put him to it, or was it all his own idea?"

-Sal

"Honestly I never know what day it is."

He rose a brow at the mention of Jimmy.

"Honestly Leo, I don't even know how I got home.."

"Ah, so you know nothing about the pretty brown-haired girl he brought to my house last night," he folded his arms, lounging on the windowsill, "He said he met her at the party you went to, at Devlin's."

-Leo

"Oh shit, did the little guy actually score!?"

Her eyes went wide, and then a face of disgust.

"Ew I helped my brother become a man."

"Well, he kept telling me it 'wasn't like that', but we both know he's a lying bastard, so what good is his word, right?" he shrugged, "I don't know, I got the idea she was in some of trouble. My mother took pity on her, so you know it must've been bad. She stayed the night."

-Sal

"What are you talking about, you're mother is rad, plus she clowns on Jimmy so you know she's cool."

She offered him the bowl.

"Do you wanna Leo?"

She asked, looking at him softly.

"I won't tell."

"She's 'rad', but she...for example...would never let you stay the night," he paused, deciding to let the fact that Jimmy, however, regularly stayed over speak for itself.

Leo eyed the bowl, "You're going to go out of your way to corrupt me. Between you and your stupid brother, I'll be dead in a month," but he took a hit all the same, exhaling mightily into Sal's face, "Who needs to remember days anyway?"

-Leo

Sal smiled as she tussled his hair,

"She's probably just worried ill use your virgin blood for devil worship or something."

She took the bowl back and set it on the nightstand, before looking in her closet mirror.

"What do you think, do I look presentable?" She asked, smudged makeup still on her face from the night before

He swatted her hand away, smiling ruefully as he did, "You look like someone who'd use my virgin blood for devil worship," he smiled pleasantly, "Perfect."

-Leo

"So what's the agenda, just came up here to bug me, or what?"

She asked with a wink, as she grabbed a few things from her room to take with her wherever she was heading

"Well, one," he held up a finger, "I deluded myself into thinking you wanted to see me. Two," held up another finger, "I thought you'd know something about Jim and his lady friend, but that was a bust."

He folded his arms, "You wanna go to the mall?"

"The mall? I'm sorry do I look like the lake kids?"

Sal asked
