Monica Maddox is a character in the Scream Roleplay Universe, figuring in the narrative’s backstory.
A glamorous socialite, Monica was a society darling in the generation of Naomi Campbell and Princess Diana. Her time in the jet set ended with her relocation to Lakewood and subsequent marriage to up-and-coming but hyper-local politician Quinn Maddox.
Like many political marriages, Quinn and Monica were a coupling of convenience: Monica had connections, Quinn had money, and they made free use of each others’ assets. It wasn’t much a model of romance, much less family, for their daughter Brooke, but there have certainly been worse arrangements.
Monica has largely been absent from her daughter’s life in recent years, spending most of her time in and out of various high-end rehab clinics around the country.

History
Monica was born on December 21, 1970.
Her young life was a glamorous one. Beautiful, blonde and blue-eyed, Monica flitted through the society circles of three continents, palling with supermodels, movie stars and royalty. It was a charmed life, and not fated to last forever. Monica was not much inclined to settling down, but her lifestyle was expensive and push came to shove.
She met Quinn Maddox in the late 1990s, a few years after he’d begun his political career, coasting to a seat on the Lakewood town council in the aftermath of the 1994 Brandon James murders. Their courtship was brief but the wedding, conducted on a pleasure barge outside the chintzy Lake Club, was more than memorable.
Domestic life was a difficult adjustment for Monica, and motherhood was no better, as she learned with the birth of her daughter Brooke in 1999. Monica loved her daughter deeply, and Brooke was the source of whatever moments of tenderness Monica and Quinn could scrounge up for each other during that period of their marriage. Still, the rudiments of acting as a mother constantly escaped Monica.
When Brooke was a toddler, the overwhelmed Monica sought out an au pair for her daughter, and found one in the form of Adeline Belmont, a farmwife who, with her husband Clint, maintained a sizable tract of land outside town. Monica was impressed enough by Adeline’s services that she recommended them to Carmen Fitzgerald, a friend of hers whose high-powered job as the head of a boutique fashion label left her with little time to look after her young son Jake. Brooke and Jake quickly made friends with the Belmonts’ son Will, remaining close throughout their childhood.
But getting her daughter out of the house only made Monica’s life emptier. As the years passed, she increasingly struggled with substance abuse issues, to the point that Quinn was obliged to send her to rehab: out of sight, out of mind. That Quinn was gearing up to run for mayor and couldn’t do with his pill-popping wife stealing the headlines was a perhaps not insignificant variable.
Trivia
Monica has never physically “appeared” in any part of the Scream Roleplay Universe or any of its predecessors, though she is frequently referred to by her daughter and husband.
According to Brooke, Monica used to enjoy drinking Old Fashioneds with grenadine for breakfast.1
