Laura Cossey is a character in the Scream Roleplay Universe, figuring in the narrative’s backstory.
A beautiful singer with a dancer’s build, Laura was the top of the cheer squad during her time at George Washington High. Through her relationship with football player Trent Price, she was part of the fateful friend group targeted by Brandon James in the 1994 murders.

History
Angel in Disguise
Laura was born on September 14, 1978, in east Lakewood. The youngest of three sisters, Laura had the benefit of minimal supervision from by-that-time exhausted parents. A spirited girl, she was a hellraiser from the minute she could walk, and parlayed this talent for recklessness into its slightly more refined female varietal as she got older.
At George Washington High, she joined the cheer squad, and eventually was named the first non-white cheer captain in the school’s history. Her good looks and fiery personality made her popular with girls and much sought after by boys. In the summer of 1994, she began dating football player and Army brat Trent Price, who she coaxed into joining her at an open mic in town.
Dating Trent brought Laura into the orbit of his friends and teammates: Kevin Duval, Brett Keener, and Mike Vinson, as well as Brett’s girlfriend Dara Alden, and Kevin’s girl Maggie Anderson.
Brokenhearted
On Halloween night, 1994, Laura was killed by Brandon James, a school outcast who’d become a prominent target of Trent and his friends. Trent, Brett, Mike, and Dara also lost their lives in the rampage, with Kevin nearly perishing of his wounds en route to the hospital. The murders became a dark stain on Lakewood’s history.1
Development
Scream the TV Series offers very little about the victims of the 1994 murders that comprise the series’ backstory. Of the five victims, only Dara and Brett were ever shown on screen, in a flashback. Laura, Trent, and Mike remained faceless and obscure. No in-universe information exists for any of these characters, except that they were all involved, to some extent, in tormenting Brandon James.
Laura and her fellow slain classmates were unattested in the SRU until 2025, when they were depicted in Big Trouble in Little Lakewood: 1969, in a vision experienced by Tony Higgs.
Trivia
The victims of the 1994 murders all have faceclaims connected to 1990s horror films. In Laura’s case, her faceclaim, R&B singer Brandy Norwood, starred in the 1998 sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, alongside Brett Keener’s faceclaim Freddie Prinze Jr.
