History

Joel was born on July 29, 2000, in Lakewood. In September 2015, he entered George Washington High School’s Class of 2019 and joined the Lakewood Lancers football team, where he played tackle. He was friends with his teammate Brock Carmichael, one of the team’s wide receivers.

On the evening of October 18, Brock posted a comment on a recently uploaded YouTube video depicting fellow GW High student Audrey Jensen (class of 2018) making out with her then-secret girlfriend Rachel Murray. The comment: “I know gay shit’s legal now, but bestiality too?” received a “like” from Brock.

Unbeknownst to Joel, Brock’s girlfriend Stacy Winters had seen the “like” and taken offense, having been a victim of bullying herself back in junior high. Stacy got in touch with Brock, who was on the way to see her for a movie date, and Brock, suitably chastened, promised to convince Joel to take the comment down.

Joel never heard from Brock, however. Moments after speaking to Stacy for the last time, he was attacked by Piper Shaw as one of the first victims of the Lakewood Slashings.¹

Personality

Joel had a crass, adolescent sense of humor. His crude comment to the kissing video displayed casual homophobia of the kind Audrey and Rachel were inundated with in the aftermath of being forced out of the closet.

Origins

Joel was created in 2025, when the Volume I Prologue was rewritten. He has no precedent either in the original 2019 Vol. I or in the 2015 Season 1 AU.

Trivia

As offensive tackle on the 2015-’16 Lakewood Lancers football team, Joel played the position vacated by Matt Aiello.

Similar to his teammate Brock, Joel’s faceclaim, violinist and General Hospital star Giovanni Mazza was a child when Scream the TV Series aired.
