“Lakewood Lezzies Caught in 4K!”, also known as the “Kissing Video”, is a candid recording of Audrey Jensen and Rachel Murray making out in the former’s car at the Wren Lake Overlook. It was recorded by Nina Patterson on October 17, 2015, and uploaded to the Lakewood_Eyes YouTube channel the following evening, where it went locally viral

The video forcibly outed Rachel and Audrey to their community and stoked Audrey’s animosity toward Nina and her friends, especially Audrey’s childhood best friend Emma Duval, whom Audrey felt particularly betrayed by. The uploading of the video coincided almost exactly with the murders of Stacy Winters and Brock Carmichael, kicking off the 2015 Lakewood Slashings.

Background

Creation

Rachel Murray and Audrey Jensen had been dating for about three months by the time the video was filmed, having met online in midsummer 2015. Both closeted, they kept their relationship under wraps, keeping their in person meetings few and far between.

They rendezvoused at the Overlook, unaware they weren’t online. On the opposite side of the hill was GW High’s “in-crowd”: Nina Patterson, Tyler O’Neil, Brooke Maddox, Jake Fitzgerald, Emma Duval, Will Belmont, Riley Marra, and Zach Henderson.1 The friends were hanging out, partially to celebrate Will and Jake clinching the playoffs for the Lakewood Lancers basketball team. Nina, however, was quietly fuming, stewing over a slew of pressures connected to Lakewood Eyes, the blackmail ring she was clandestinely operating with the aid of Tyler, Will, and Jake.

It was Emma was errantly noticed Audrey’s car, calling attention to it despite herself. Nina, seeing this, seized the opportunity to capture some content, not to blackmail Audrey, but just “because [she] could”. Audrey had once been Emma’s best friend, and the two had a falling out the previous year, when Emma had been accepted into Nina’s clique, Audrey associating Nina and her friends with the type of people who made her life hell as a child.

Emma objected but ultimately didn’t stop Nina from filming it. Nina uploaded it to the Lakewood_Eyes YouTube channel the next day, under the title “Lakewood Lezzies Caught in 4K!”2

Content

The video was filmed in extreme close-up and was marred by Nina’s less-than-steady hand on her phone. In “post-production” an upbeat poppy track was overlaid in stark contrast with the content.3

Fallout

The Murders of Stacy Winters and Brock Carmichael

In the immediate aftermath of the video being uploaded, GW High freshman Brock Carmichael “liked” a comment left by Joel, a friend and football teammate. The “like” was seen by Brock’s girlfriend Stacy, herself a victim of bullying in her junior high days. Given Brock was on his way to Stacy’s place for a movie night, Stacy texted him to extract an explanation, reminding him of how bullying effected her once upon a time.

Brock was remorseful and promised to talk to Joel about deleting the comment. Minutes after getting off the phone, he was attacked by Ghostface, becoming the first victim of the 2015 Lakewood Slashings.4

Ripple Effects

The video’s virality had instant negative repercussions for Audrey and Rachel, who were forcibly outed. Audrey immediately connected the video to Nina and her friends and crashed a house party Brooke was throwing to demand an explanation from Emma, which she didn’t get, thanks to Brooke’s intervention.5

Emma was wracked by guilt over taking Nina at her word that she’d get rid of the video,6 though her friends told her there was nothing she could’ve done to stop Nina once she’d gotten started.7

Before the video was two hours old, it had already racked up 5,000 hits.8

Trivia

The kissing video was downplayed in the 2015 Season 1 AU, and indeed went largely unmentioned for the first half of the forum’s run, with Nina and Tyler’s cruelty having less of a focused point. This was partially due to Rachel being unclaimed until the end of the forum’s first “episode”, when she was claimed by ThePlotMurderer.

In Scream the TV Series, the kissing video was uploaded to a platform called “Cliplicious”, presumably because MTV couldn’t afford to invoke YouTube. Nina’s less eloquent canonical equivalent named the video “Audrey’s FACE SUCK EXTRAVAGANZA”.
