The Lakewood Sheriff’s Department is the official law enforcement body of Lakewood. It is comprised of an elected sheriff and a team of sheriff’s deputies who operate with county-wide jurisdiction.
At the time of the 2015 Lakewood Slashings, the office of sheriff had been occupied for a decade by Clark Hudson. Following his murder during that killing spree, the role was fulfilled by Miguel Acosta, who served during the Lakewood Thrashings until his own death by mysterious circumstances the following November.

History
Clark Hudson was elected to the office of sheriff on November 2, 2004,1 nearly five years after relocating to Lakewood from Atlanta and three years after joining the force as a deputy. Clark enjoyed broad popularity and his tenure coincided with a record low crime rate as the community continued to heal following the trauma of the 1994 Brandon James killings.
The department’s good fortunes took a turn a decade into Clark’s tenure, with the onset of the murder spree the press dubbed the Lakewood Slashings in October 2015. The killings, primarily concentrated on students at George Washington High School invoked the local memory of the Brandon James murders, more so when it surfaced that the killer was wearing a Brandon James mask.
