The Maddox Mansion (also called “The Maddox manse”, the “mayoral mansion”, and “the great house”) was the residence of the Maddox family at the time of the 2015 – 2016 Lakewood murders.
Located on the Wren Lake waterfront, the mansion is a prime piece of real estate, notwithstanding its turn as the bloodstained venue for the climactic events of the 2015 Lakewood Slashings.

Layout
The Maddox mansion is a palatial lake house, with two stories and a basement, and comprises a mid-size estate, with a courtyard, garden, and pool.
The courtyard, also called the forecourt, is circular, and opens out into the front drive. It’s not uncommon for guests at the manse to park around the edges of the courtyard.1
The kitchen is modern and pristine, given that the Maddoxes don’t do much home cooking. The room is dominated by a black marble kitchen island, and includes a well-stocked liquor cabinet which, between father and daughter, sees more use than most of the appliances. There is access to the pool deck through glass French doors.2
The swimming pool, located in the back of the house, is kidney-shaped, with a surrounding deck of marbled blue and white tile. The pool is invariably the centerpiece of Brooke’s house parties, including the “Big Beautiful Bash” ostensibly celebrating the 2015 Harvest Moon. The pool deck can be accessed from outside, via a garden path linking it to the courtyard.3 One can enter the house through French doors leading into the kitchen.4 Pool supplies are kept in a dedicated shed on the deck.5
The garden comprises a chunk of the grounds between the pool deck and the forecourt. A winding footpath runs through it, connecting the pool and the courtyard. The greenery to either end of the path is decorated with fairy lights, which are lit in the evenings for festive occasions.6
According to Jake Fitzgerald, the house has five bedrooms,7 including a master bedroom for Quinn and a slightly smaller suite for Brooke.
History
Brooke’s Big Beautiful Bash
The Maddox manse was the venue for Brooke’s Big Beautiful Bash, a party celebrating the 2015 Harvest Moon. The party coincided with Nina Patterson’s uploading of the kissing video, meaning the festivities were quickly derailed by the arrival of a furious Audrey Jensen, who immediately assumed her former best friend Emma Duval had a hand in the creation of the video and the ensuing humiliation dealt to Audrey and her (previously) secret girlfriend Rachel Murray. The girls were separated by Brooke on Emma’s side and Audrey’s friends Amanda Steele and Noah Foster on hers.8
Brooke brought Emma inside, where she tried to cheer Emma up.9 Meanwhile, Amanda and Noah were cornered by Nina and her boyfriend, Tyler O’Neil. Amanda confronted Nina about uploading the video and wondered why Tyler was defending her, given all Nina had taken from him, insinuating Nina was being unfaithful. Tyler jumped to the conclusion that Nina was cheating on him with Jake Fitzgerald and confronted him. Jake, wasted after chugging a keg through a hose, laughed off the notion, provoking Tyler into tackling him into Brooke’s pool.10
The fracas was broken up by a furious Brooke who, incensed at the guys’ conduct, ordered them to leave and, figuring things were spoilt enough, calling off the whole party, sending everyone home.11 Brooke was helped in clearing up by Emma, Riley Marra, and Zach Henderson, who during this time received frantic word from his mother about the murders of Stacy Winters and Brock Carmichael, which had occurred across the street from the Henderson home.12
Trivia
The Maddox manse is occasionally referred to as “the great house”. The nickname, dating from the first draft of The Story so Far, is an allusion to the gothic soap opera Dark Shadows. Episodes of the soap would open with prosaic monologues, many of which would refer to the show’s primary setting, Collinwood, as “the great house on the crest of Widows’ Hill”.
The house is also called “the mayoral mansion”. This isn’t strictly correct. A mayoral mansion would belong to whoever holds the office of the mayor, similar to New York City’s Gracie Mansion. By contrast, 1 Lakeview Terrace is the Maddox family’s property, and belonged to Quinn before he won the mayorship.
