Charlie to Colin and Derek

Origins

The three members of the CCD were all from different classes at GW High, and weren’t close prior to the start of the 2015-’16 school year. They were brought together with the common cause of ‘poking Lakewood’s eyes out’…that is, bringing down GW High’s Queen Bee, Nina Patterson, who they felt had wronged them and/or people close to them.

The unambiguous leader of the trio was Charlie Hawkins, a senior, notorious as the school’s resident weed guy.

On the evening of October 18th, 2015, Colin convinced Derek to attend Brooke’s Big Beautiful Bash, a house party held by Brooke Maddox, one of Nina’s more prolific hangers-on, just for a taste of real high school debauchery. Ultimately, Colin ended up passing out pretty early in the evening.¹

Unattended, Derek passed a solitary time until he found himself at the periphery of a fight between Jake Fitzgerald and Tyler O’Neil, incited by Amanda Steele’s salacious claim that Nina had been cheating on Tyler with Jake. The fight ended up with Jake and Tyler splashing into Brooke’s swimming pool, dousing Derek in the process.²

The whole altercation prompted Derek to a realization: Tyler didn’t trust Nina. Indeed, he was so insecure about her loyalty to him that it almost begged the question why he was still with her to begin with. The germ of an idea grew in Derek’s mind: could Tyler be the key to bringing Nina down? Derek shared his idea with Colin and Charlie the following day, after school, and received a warm reception.

For his part, Colin drew their attention to a video that had been posted last night, depicting local outcast Audrey Jensen making out with an anonymous girl. The video’s uploader? Lakewood_Eyes. He singled out Audrey as a potential ally…she was bound to be furious with Nina for outing her so blatantly. Charlie declared it was good: they each had their assignments, and they each knew what they had to do…before long, Nina would be out of business (and out of their lives) at last. Charlie declared they each had an assignment: Derek had to work on Tyler, Colin on Audrey, and Charlie…

Well, he kept his part to himself.³

Origins and Development

Though its members all had equivalents in the 2015 Season 1 AU, the CCD is a very recent retroactive addition to the SRU, dating to the 2026 Volume I rewrite, which updated the existing text of The Story so Far (compiled in 2019) into a more novelesque format.

As originally conceived, Charlie, Colin and Derek were loosely connected stoners. Colin and Derek have very few scenes in the original forum, and Charlie was just an NPC appearing in a single scene that served as Colin and Derek’s first (and only, within that text) meeting.

The original Volume I seized on the three characters as easy cannon fodder for the killer and killed them off in the chapters immediately following the adaptation of the forum’s content. Charlie was made a business partner of Nina’s, but Colin and Derek were just dupes who had the misfortune of being connected to Charlie at the wrong time. The three characters didn’t have broad connections with the rest of the canvas and quietly fade from the narrative after being killed.

All three members of the CCD were killed in the Lakewood Slashings.
