Pamela Murray is a character in the Scream Roleplay Universe, appearing in the first two volumes of The Story so Far and in Big Trouble in Little Lakewood: 1988.

A strong personality with a not-unearned reputation as an ice queen, Pamela left a promising career in the finance sector, first to attempt motherhood and, when that proved insufficiently rewarding, to hawk art pieces to the credulous rich, a better racket than banking and slightly more exciting.

Pamela’s family relationships were always fraught, both with her husband Jason and their daughter Rachel, who she relentlessly berated. Rachel’s forced outing in the fall of 2015 threw Pam for a loop, and she lashed out, pushing Rachel farther away than ever and creating a gap her daughter didn’t live long enough to close.

History

Pamela was born on April 7, 1972, in Lakewood. Her father was Callum Devlin, the director of Wren Lake Community, the town’s independent bank, of whose board he’d been a founding member. Callum was a savvy investor, and the Devlin family was consequently fabulously wealthy. Pamela and her older brother Kirk attended the best schools in the area, going on to high school at the twin Catholic preparatory schools: St. George Prep for Kirk and St. Mary’s Academy for Pamela.1

Damage Control

On October 18th, 2015, a video was uploaded to YouTube depicting Rachel making out with another girl. The video went locally viral, attracting reams of unwanted negative attention. Pamela and Jason were thrown by the video, and the realization of their daughter’s sexuality.

As had become an unfortunate trend in their marriage, things quickly became a blame game between Jason and Pam: Pamela accusing Jason of not being a more present father, and even alluding he was a poor model of masculinity for her.2

Determined to see heads roll in one direction or another, Pamela sought and obtained a sit-down meeting at St. Mary’s for the next day. After school, she and Jason joined Rachel in the office of Sr. Alice-Marie, the principal. Pamela was vociferous in her denunciation of the school for taking so long to find the people responsible for uploading the video and, once Alice-Marie alluded to her theory that the culprit attended the local “public option”, where Rachel’s “friend” was a student, sought confirmation that the two schools would work together to find and punish the person or persons responsible. Rachel feebly protested, saying that it wasn’t necessary, but Pamela wasn’t hear of it and silenced Rachel with a sharp pinch.3

Appearance

Pamela is a handsome woman of middle-age, with a fair complexion and wavy blonde hair. She has distinctive blue eyes and wields them with formidable precision.

Wardrobe

Pam dresses expensively. For her meeting with Sr. Alice-Marie at her alma mater, she chose school colors: a white pantsuit with a blue chiffon blouse.4

Personality

Pamela has a harsh and domineering personality. She’s used to getting her way and expects to have it, every time. She loses her temper frequently, but her outbursts are cold rather than hot. She’s capable of holding a grudge and has a long memory for insults.

Origins and Development

Pamela was first attested in the 2015 Season 1 AU, where she was referred to as an unnamed but fearsome figure by her daughter Rachel. She finally appeared in Volume I of The Story so Far, following Rachel’s death. Pamela went on to have appreciably significant roles in the SRU, featuring in Volume II (in which she was unnamed) and then most significantly in Big Trouble in Little Lakewood, where Jamie Teague encounters her both as an adult in 2016 and as a teenager in 1988.

Trivia

Pamela’s faceclaim, Cynthia Watros, is one of several LOST alumni to feature in the SRU. Fellow Losties include L. Scott Caldwell (Theodora Kellerman) and Blake Bashoff (Greg Peters).

Pam also belongs to a much broader category of soap opera stars who have been used as faceclaims: Cynthia Watros (Guiding Light, The Young and the Restless, and General Hospital) as an adult and Hunter King (The Young and the Restless) as a teen.

Quotes

That’s very reassuring. I’m sure that’ll be his top priority once he’s finished finding which one of his classrooms has a child killer in it.

Pamela is skeptical that Principal Teague will be able to find the person responsible for the kissing video

They’ve ripped her backbone out and she’s happy to watch them play double-dutch with it!

Pamela isn’t impressed with Rachel’s temerity
