Class Clown

Colin was born on July 2, 1999, in Lakewood. He was the product of a large Ashkenazi Jewish family. His parents doted on him throughout his childhood, and he had no shortage of aunts, uncles and cousins, among which he was the runt of a particularly boisterous litter.

What Colin lacked in physical presence, he more than made up for with personality. He was the family clown, a known wisecracker, prone to look for the joke in everything, up to and including his grandmother’s funeral. Humor proved a useful defense mechanism in school, when his diminutive stature, gawky appearance and, regrettably, visible Jewishness earned him his share of bullying from his peers.

Colin met his haters with a cheeky grin and a quick barb, never letting his discomfiture show on the surface. It wasn’t easy, though, and Colin proved just as vulnerable to the strains of adolescence as everyone else. On a taller, pimplier frame, his antics weren’t that precocious anymore, and life got harder.

His only solace was his friend. Singular.

Common Cause

After Dylan’s disappearance from Colin’s life, the spark that had once animated him faded, and Colin became bitter and resentful, the things that used to bring him joy now only deepening the wound his best friend had left.

Things changed over the summer, when Colin met Derek Jackson. An introverted nerd somehow even more socially hopeless than Colin, without even a sense of humor to wear as a shield, Colin found in Derek a confidante and fellow traveler, and they bonded over their shared troubles. During this time, Colin also deepened his association with Charlie Hawkins.¹

Charlie, something of an institutional legend at GW High, was known to most as the local weed guy. He proved to be much smarter than he let on, and over time a loosely constitute trio formed, bound by a common theme: these three young men had all been jerked around, in one way or another, by the Queen Bitch herself, Nina Patterson.

Derek found Colin easier to get along with than Charlie, who intimidated him despite his laid back demeanor. Reminded somewhat of Dylan, Colin enjoyed encouraging him to get out more, and convinced him to attend Brooke’s Big Beautiful Bash, a house party held by Brooke Maddox, one of Nina’s more prolific hangers-on, just for a taste of real high school debauchery.

Colin ended up tasting more than he could handle, spending most of the evening passed out, leaving Derek to fend for himself.²

Man on the Street

The following morning, October 19th, 2015, Colin was interviewed by Lakewood KLA’s Eliza Taylor, for his opinion on the recent murder of Stacy Winters and Brock Carmichael, two freshmen Colin didn’t know from Adam, not that he was about to shy away from a shot to get on TV.³

On being asked whether he was “legal”, Colin claimed he was, which was more enough for Liz. However, as an unamused Vice Principal Kellerman informed Eliza when she broke things up after the interview concluded: Colin was indeed still a minor…when he claimed he was “legal”, he was counting on Liz assuming he meant to be married in the state.⁴

Colin didn’t hang around to catch the brunt of the reporter’s disappoint, hurrying into school to link up with Derek at his locker to brag about his brush with celebrity. Derek had news of his own: while Colin had been passed out at the party, he’d gotten an idea for a way to finally “get to” Nina. Colin beamed at his friend’s brainwave, but didn’t let him divulge it, preferring instead that he share it to Charlie too, after school.⁵

Colin arrived late to his first period English class, but successfully obtained an indulgence from Mr. Branson, whose class was subsequently hijacked by Noah Foster, whose paper comparing The Great Gatsby to the 1994 Brandon James murders proved especially trenchant in the wake of the latest headlines.⁶

Dynamic Trio

As promised, Colin and Derek rendezvoused with Charlie after school, meeting on the otherwise abandoned football field. Colin helped Derek get over his apprehensions and Derek explained what had happened at Brooke’s party, after Colin passed out: he’d witnessed a fight between Nina’s boyfriend, Tyler O’Neil, and Jake Fitzgerald, spurred by an insinuation that Nina hadn’t been as loyal to Tyler as he’d always been to her. What if they could exploit that? What if Tyler had more in common with them than he did with Nina?

Not to be outdone, Colin drew their attention to a video that had been posted last night, depicting local outcast Audrey Jensen making out with an anonymous girl. The video’s uploader? Lakewood_Eyes. He singled out Audrey as a potential ally…she was bound to be furious with Nina for outing her so blatantly. Charlie declared it was good: they each had their assignments, and they each knew what they had to do…before long, Nina would be out of business (and out of their lives) at last.⁷

Later that day, Derek posted a question in their “CCD” group chat, wondering what Charlie was going to be doing while he handled Tyler or Colin handled Audrey. Colin, still very high, chided Derek for his bluntness (ahem), but Charlie smoothly assured them he knew his own assignment.⁸

Appearance

Colin was a lanky, pale-complected young man of average height, with a mop of curly black hair and warm brown eyes.

Wardrobe

Colin wore a red Elements Skateboarding hoodie the day he was interviewed by Eliza Taylor.⁹ His outfit also included red and white skate shoes.¹⁰

Personality

Colin was an inveterate jokester, with a freewheeling sense of humor and a dogged aversion to taking things seriously. Despite this, he possessed certain moral principles, especially with regard to those few people he called friends. While initially more inclined to craven selfishness, his association with people like Dylan and Derek provoked him into being more cognizant of helping others.

Equipment

Lighter: Colin owns a gray cigarette lighter, given to him as a bar mitzvah gift by one of his uncles. The lighter’s logo feature a picture of a proton and the legend: ‘Think Like a Proton: Stay Positive!’¹¹

Crimes Committed

Possession and use of marijuana: Colin was a loyal customer of Charlie Hawkins, who he bought weed from.¹²

Origins and Development

Colin was created by BeartoothGuy for the 2015 Season 1 AU. He was created for the express purpose of being “cannon fodder” for the killer, in a similar vein as Fate’s Deanna Wilcox and TellatrixForever’s Derek Jackson. Unlike Fate and Tellatrix, BeartoothGuy had only the one OC, his other energies being invested in his canon character, Noah Foster.

Colin was the second of two “stoner” archetypes created for the game, being preceded by the aforementioned Derek. When Tellatrix realized they had both created stoners, it was decided the two would be “buddies”, though this relationship only manifested for one scene in the game’s first “episode”.

Colin was differentiated from Derek by being more straightforwardly comic relief, hovering perpetually at the periphery of the story to make unsolicited humorous remarks. His appearances throughout the game grew increasingly sporadic and no storylines involving Colin ever manifested.

BeartoothGuy was a late addition to the May 2016 Season 2 AU. When he did join, he brought a new OC with him: a jock freshman named Nate Wakefield, who went on to have minor roles in that forum and its October 2016 successor, the last Scream game BeartoothGuy was part of. Colin was left to languish in limbo.

Colin’s canonicity to the SRU was confirmed in 2019, with the first volume of The Story so Far affirming that he was, indeed, killed early in the Lakewood Slashings, as he was created to be. Similar to Derek, the Colin of the Story’s original iteration was thinly characterized, with no backstory or wider connections to the canvas. It was only when Lakewood: Year One began in 2023, and the Story so Far redux in 2025, that the “stoner” characters of Volume I were significantly built out, and a storyline crafted around them, tying them to the greater plot.

Bio: Colin spends most of his time when he isn’t at school in his parents basement getting high or at the gas station buying snacks. In school he gets along with just about everyone but every now and then he’ll say something that could make them angry. He gets average grades in school amd tries to stick to easy classes so he doesn’t have to try hard to pass. His parents both work at the hospital as doctors and are almost never home, giving Colin the freedom to do whatever he wants for the most part.

How far do you see them lasting: (this will help determine a few things) he could go at just about anytime. The fact that he is alone most of the time outside of school makes him an easy target.

Season 1 AU

Colin was not originally intended to be a well-rounded character, instead being fashioned purely as comic relief who would be killed off sometime in the first half of the game’s run.

Trivia

Colin was the eighth OC created for the Season 1 AU, and the last to be created before the game started, on September 6, 2015.

Colin’s original faceclaim was English actor and Internet personality Gavin Free, primarily known for his work at Rooster Teeth Productions. BeartoothGuy had some fun with this casting in the OC bio, noting that Colin looks older than his age. Free was, at the time, a decade older than Colin was meant to be, not that this is strictly unusual for the genre or the medium.

When Colin was incorporated into Lakewood: Year One in 2023, he was recast with Jack Dylan Grazer (It, Shazam, etc.) who, like many later additions to the SRU’s younger stable, would’ve been in junior high in the 2014 – 2016 period.

The Season 1 AU incarnation of Colin was 17, in keeping with the game’s inconsistent idea of how old the core characters were supposed to be. This was adapted to the original incarnation of The Story so Far in 2019, but was undone when the Year One ensemble was put together in 2023, instead putting Colin in the same cohort as the future Lakewood 6, and spreading the CCD across three grades at GW High.

Colin’s nerd “specialty” is comics and superheroes. No far weather fan, he’s aware of the quirky idiosyncrasies of the 1966 Batman TV series,¹³ referred to The Great Gatsby’s narrator Nick Carroway as “Spider-Man” in an English paper,¹⁴ has strong opinions on The Inhumans, and is a professed fan of Moon Knight.¹⁵

Colin is Jewish, and is proudly ignorant of the politics of Lakewood’s Protestant population.¹⁶
